The evening of January 6th

This Brazilian boy has wiggled and bore his way into the depths of my heart.
It isn't just his smile or amazing curls or dreamy accent.
He is kind through and through and his excitement for the world around him and all that is,
is truly captivating.
Being near him makes one happy happy happy and want to see the world through his glasses.

So
When he asked me not to take the tree down January 2nd when I usually always and forever do
I listened
And again on January 3rd
4th and 5th

On January 6th the day he said maaaaybe I could take it down
I thought I would surprise him with another day or two
While he watched TV I glanced at the tree and it really was lookin' a little dusty and tired

Heart Beating outta my chest I waited

I could not possible do it in front of him for fear he might be damaged for life

My innards are shaking still as I write this.

When he left the room I started just a bit.

When he left for the evening

I did a little more

These big ones really show the dust so they had to go

Oh no

My Mother's glass ornaments from when she was a little girl
Paper "hooks" were used to save metal for the war

Deep breath
I'd leave the garland and lights and the few balls up top
Still pretty
He will love it

Yikes. The garland.

Couldn't stop
I knew I was being bad and breaking hearts but I just could not stop

OK maybe just the lights and top things

No turning back
Heart beating
Beating

How will I reach the top and then dispose of the evidence

Beating Beating

AND I had to deal with this

 STILL snooping for presents

There's NOtthing there!

NO Carolyn SHOOO

Noooo more even if you sit cute with your paw up.
...can you believe she's sitting? She can actually be in two rooms at one time with that long wormy body.
Verrrm as Boy Boy says

To the rescue
He's my living breathing hero ladder

Beating
Beating
Beating

If I'm gonna do it I've got to do it all
Maybe he won't even notice

 Come on Carolyn GO AWAY
Let's all sit and pretend to watch a movie when they come in

Telling me SHE'S mad and just wait til HE gets home

This is the part that made my heart stop beating

I usually post Sunday (sometimes Monday) mornings. I accidently hit Post tonight while I was gathering my thoughts. There was no turning back...just like dismantling the tree!

  3. Cindy...
Always a pleasure to visit! Taking the holiday decorations down is exhilarating and sad at the same time. I wonder if he was waiting for 'little Christmas' or just loving your holiday tree. Either way, it says a lot about how comfortable he is living in your home and how much he cares about all of you!
Hope you're enjoying your time-out this weekend.:-)

  4. You are so good--I usually have my tree down the DAY after Christmas, Cindy! By that point, I can't stand it, anymore--especially the needles everywhere. Milli's Brazilian boy is one lucky fellow--you've spoiled him for life!

  9. You made me cry with this last picture!!! It's funny but I feel the same sadness about taking down the tree..perhaps it's because we know..another Christmas has come and gone and there's always a little emptiness afterwords that lingers well into January..for me I always remember our Christmas' when the kids were little and how they wanted me to keep the tree up long after Christmas was over ..then I start remembering them in their little footy pj's.....oh dear.. never mind..I shall start to cry...:(......anyway....ours just came down yesterday...so hard

Your ornament collection is amazing! I JUST started collection these old glass ornaments... I have just three so far..oh my how I loveee them...yours were making me fairly drool!! ;)

Wishing you a wonderful day filled with joy.

    Hugs, doreen

  10. LOVE reading your blog, about your family and your traditions, and your daughters brazilian boy friend. I lover you home, you style is very similiar to mine. If you wouldn't mind answering a questions or two for me. In the first pic of this post, what are your curtains made from, and what did you do to your walls to get the look. Love it, Tia, Cheryl

  11. Thank you friends x <3 x!
After one year I stilll don't know how to respond to comments...not sure if direct emails get to you or if you are notified when I write here???
So sorry for all my mess ups:(
Cheryl, I made my curtains years ago from natural heavy line which I dyed a ginger color. For the walls, they were cream colored and then I just watered down the color on top and washed the walls with it using a big giant sponge. It was 17 years ago...yikes!...I think I did one wash coat and then the next day did another.
I sooo want to change the color but not sure to what? :)
Good luck and have funnn if you do it! It's EASY!
    xxxxx Cindy
