Cape Cod

Six hours into the eight hour trip back home, if Dave would have asked if I wanted to turn around, and if at that moment the Vet called and said our little Carolyn was no longer with us,
I would have in half a second!
Sitting here today I want to be on the Cape moreeee than anything!
My friend Patty said as soon as we crossed that bridge we'd enter a whole different world
Boy did we!!!
Going down 6A gave me whiplash
One pretty house after antique shop after cuteee roadside stand after another!
AND
It seemed like EVERYone was HAPPY!
People on vacation just want to have funfunFUN, spend money like they have it, and the residents are happy they survived this longggg winter and are now making some $$$ :)

Thursday night we went as far as Sturbridge MA.
Which we LOVE and stayed at The Publick House
which we LOVEEEE
Exactly our style, clean, delicious food,
noooo bedbugs!
My friend Kim went somewhere recently and Honest to God
BEDBUGS
Had Dave, Lacy and I petrified!
...wish I had a pic of Dave inspecting the mattresses while us Princesses waited in the car :)

So pretty and cozy right?

One of the restaurants in The Publick House where we had breakfast

Sat next to this amazing hearth

The Colonel Hash and Eggs
OK, so why is "Kernel" spelled like that Lacy and I want to know
Trips us up every time!
"We'll all have the Col on el"
Thank God Dave swoops in and saves us
EVERYtime
Anyway, it was exactly what our tummies wanted!!

First stop on the Cape
Mashpee
to see BOY BOY <3
Right now he's staying at a beautiful Boat Yard with some wonderful people
It was HEAVEN to see him and hug him after a whole month
...30lbs less of him!
Workin' and playing hard that Boy Boy of mine! xox

Brought him some syrup and his favorite brownies
We left with some fish!
Our goal was to eat as much seafood as we could in 4 days! :)

 Yay for Boy Boy
Living life and making new adventures!

Next stop
Brewster to see our Milli girl! <3

Somehow SOMEway this girl of ours got herself this place for just a couple of hundred a month
She left home with no real place to live and plans to sleep in her car if she had to.
Then, THANK GOD, she met some friends who took her in.
Didn't get to meet them but I LOVE them!

Scooped Milli up and brought her with us to where we were staying
At our dear friend's cottage in Wellfleet
Wellfleet is where my heart is today
So grateful to have had the privilege to stay here
Not only is it gorgeous, comfortable, and peaceful
The Energy of the family who owns it soothes your soul and makes your insides smile
xxooxx

Looking out our upstairs bedroom window!

The seafood challenge begins at
Moby Dicks

Oysters, scallops, shrimp, clams, swordfish, cod

Dancing Spoons
Cooking Company
love that....Cooking Company!

 Surprise!

I'd be so having one of those coconut muffins if they were gluten free
Coconut ANYthing I LOVEEE

They had 2 catering jobs that day!

Love the colors they painted the walls

 And the bathroom floor!

I want to do a variation of this somewhere!

Waiting for Milli to finish up we visited some shops in Orleans

Cute Gourmet Shop

Balsamic vinegar and olive oil sold in bulk
Love!

Cases of different foods delight me
Packaging. It's the packaging!

On vacation you get to buy mustard like this
Because it's from France and you like the jar.
Packaging

Grabbed Milli again and off to "our" little town of Wellfleet
<3 <3 <3

 Us girls just liked this

And this on the Market doors and windows!

 Hats!
I soooo miss the cute days when you could tie a dirty rag around your head and it would look GREAT

 Funny
They're looking for each other and they are both right there
:)

Stationery Shop
Another weakness. Paper

Colored glass Seals

 x o x

Right smack in the middle of the street

 Great shop through that window

xox
A taller version of what I used to be

 Inspiration

Laxmi
313 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA
Fell in love with Laxmi
She was the Executive Pastry Chef at Sax Fifth Avenue for many years and is now doing this!
Making jewelry and selling handcrafts in such a great little, not so little really, shop!
Sweet and kind and so appreciative. Could have spent all afternoon there with her and her art!

 Again.
Longing

Bought one of these vases as a present and I want to keep it!

 Where Laxmi's heart is
xox

 Laxmi life energy

I want to be right here right now gathering dinner
How cute are those umbrellas!

The Cape was right there with Organic
but not so much Gluten Free

 Favorite place of these two
Growing up on LI Rich misses the local fresh fish markets
Cooker girl Lacy dreams of her very own Fish Monger where she can shop daily

 9lbs
Approximately 50 years old
:(

Choosing dinner

 Secret Mac's Father's Day T-shirts

 Lacy and her Monger

Waiting for our lobsters we went next door for a drink
It's what you do on VACATION

Such cool lights

To vacations and SEAFOOD

 Makes my heart sing
Growing up 10 years apart was like two different worlds when they were young
Now one big happyyyy world

 Always so stressful for me
Sad and delicious
Try not to think about it.
Always do.

Lots of lobster wonderings during that meal
What's the red stuff?...(girl eggs we later found out)
Green stuff?...(boy lobster)
How do they mate? And do the girls have a time of month??
...need another trip back to Lacy's Fish Monger!

Father's Day morning 4 of them went out for a bike ride
20 miles!
I went exploring
Saw this the night before on our way to get ice cream and HAD to find it again!
A JELLY STAND!
I love discovering stands. I've had stands. Want more stands. And want to make a book of stands.
LOVE EM!

Briar Lane  Jams and Jellies
Same family since 1932!

BEST fudge ever!

Like jewels sparkling in the sun

After the bike ride the girls wanted to take their Dad to the beach and for Lobster Rolls

Drove up and down Rt 6 and landed here
The cheapest but were they going to be any good?

OMGosh
Soooo GOOD
On the way home from the Cape we decided THESE were our favorite meal!

I used to be a surfer girl
Well, dated a surfer boy. Friends with surfer boys
Memories of early mornings carrying wet suits and baskets of food
Holding up towels trying not to peek when they undressed
Trying.

HAPPY Father's Day
 <3
So love the way you love them and the way they love you
x o x

Sad that Milli had to go to her waitress job later Sunday afternoon
(The girl is actually thinking of a 3rd job!)
After Milli left Lacy and I went to town for the makings of Father's Day dinner
Back to the Wellfleet Market
The gathering dance

We want to live where they sell
Chef Potatoes!

And have things in cute packaging!

AND sell books and wine!!

Mail Love Letters too!!!

ALL we could ever want in a market

PB Boulangerie
Right around the corner from the cottage
Father's Day desert

 Dreamy

It was late in the day so the case was empty
Dying to see it first thing in the morning

How special does this make you feel!

French Bakery on one side and Bistro on the other

Leaving our hearts on the Cape Monday morning
we stopped at just a few more places
before saying good bye to Milli
Between the surfers and this
I was transported back to the time I so long for

Hello

Flew past and had to turn around
My girls call me Mew Mew

Across the street from Mew's
THIS is what my eyes are aching for today

Last stop on the Cape Cod train
The Ocean Edge Resort
where Milli waitresses

Fancy schmancy for us country folk
A wonderful place to spend the summer when you're 19!

It's hard for Dave to really take any vacations
The only two in forever were to see Milli in Brasil last year and now on the Cape this year
Hopping onto her adventures
Smiling all the way

Thank you Milli Girl!
Where to next year?!

Thank you for sharing your life, your love, and your wonderful cottage with us
We felt you there

  4. You packed in so much in your four days. The Cape is wonderful. Every place I visit on vacation I want to live there. The Cape tho... I could live there with all it's quaintness and the ocean. Happy you had a wonderful time. Peace out.

  7. hi Cindy!
what a wonderful post and as always I love following your adventures.
I grew up just north of the Cape and spent some good time there as a kid with my parents, as a kid with my high school friends... I havn't been back in years (traffic) and now live in Maine and I acutally haul my own lobster traps in the summer!
I love all the pictures you took of everything! I will try to do more of that when I am out and about, there is soo much to see. Thank you again for inspiring me.

  8. I so enjoyed your post today on Cape Cod. We were in. Massachusetts in May for the Brimfield show. I had to smile, as we too ate at the Publik house. And believe it or not, we sat at that very same table. Their bakery is divine. One of my daughters and I were just thinking about all the goodness we ate while we there. Oh, I would so love to have a Whoopie Pie right now, but it's a very long way from San Antonio, Texas. Oh well, it's only about 46 weeks until next May's Brimfield.

    Smiles,
    Carol
