My little town

July 26, 1987 6pm
We drove into town and I yelled "STOP THE CAR!"
Dave pulled over in front of the Sherwood Inn and hand in hand we RAN through the town
RAN
Where were we?!!!

It had been a longggg weekend of one little sleepy upstate town after another
Looking for a place for Dave to set up his Chiropractic office
Somewhere that didn't already have a Chiropractor...his dream to be the small town country Doc,
...was pretty, lively, and near water
In Auburn, the next town over, almost giving up and starting the 6 hour drive back to LI, Dave said let's just go one more town
I rolled my eyes. I was pooooped!!
We must have walked from one end of town to the other...Dave's plan to get the real 'feel", for 50 towns!
...well, it seemed like 50
Plus it was my birthday and I just wanted to get homeee

Running through town we asked how to pronounce the name, Skan-eee-at-a-las, and grabbed local papers from Herb's candy store
There was an art show in the park, jazz music coming from the Sherwood, and the dinner cruise was about to take off
The Captain stepped off the boat and said "We have room for two more. Two more?"
Pointed to us and said, "What about you two?"
A sign?
!
It was late and we really needed to get on the road
The whole way back we were non stop jabbering, wondering, dreaming
Totally convinced there MUST already be a Chiropractor there

The next day I called Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce
Heart beating outta my chest and into my throat
"Hi, we're thinking of moving to town, do you have a Chiropractor?"
..."Nope. Never have. Hope to someday"
!!!!!!!
Grabbed a bottle of wine and went to see Dave
"We found it!!"

23 years later
"We reeeally live here" we say each time we pass the lake
We really, really do.

The lake gives so much life and beauty to the town
But last week it took and broke our hearts
We all mourn a baby gone way too soon

Over 100 yellow ribbons line our streets
Tied by friends of the family to show all our love and support
Peace to you sweet baby boy

Friends come running
Whenever, wherever, there's a need,
they come
They bring dinners, tools for repair, words of love and hope
Healing hands and remedies

Our little Carolyn was struck with Dachshund disc disease a few weeks ago
:(
We are hoping to prevent total paralysis with crate rest and love
When Bonita heard, she came
With her healing touch and soothing oils

There's been amazing results with essential oil treatment

Raindrop therapy up and down that longgg spine
Smelled HEAVENLY

Who is this lady and whaat is that stuff?

 I do not know
but
I loveeee it
 <3
Thank you Bonita
Carolyn was so happy and restful but at the same time more alert and pain free!

Going to the bank on Wed. before meeting Lacy for lunch this is what I saw
Two of my dear friends, sisters, on a corner with their loot from the second hand shop,
tryingggg to txt

 Look at the determination
Trying to communicate a deal of the century for a set of antique chairs to young newlyweds who would only communicate by "Morse Code" as my daddy says
THIS scene made my entire week
Can't stop giggling when I look at these
I myself love txting better than talking which probably makes this even funnier to me!

Lunch at Ellen's BC restaurant
Our favorite!
 x o x
Cute Ellen happy to see us
Set a beautiful place at the bar so we could visit while she was supposeddd to be working :)

Flowers, and even pretty stone, or were they glass...eggs
Couldn't stop touching and holding them

Our favorite lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing
THE BEST Ellen! xxx

After we got stuck in the parking garage we went to Roji's Tea Lounge
...the parking garage
While gathering my change from the machine, 13 dollar coins, the gate went up and then back down before I got through
I was going to pony up to the next guy and blast through after he paid but Lacy pushed all the buttons and messed it up for him too
We had to wait for an attendant to come spring us all!
Always SOMEthing wacky happens when I'm with my girls!

 Her choice
A celebration for a new position she just got where she works

 Coconut Party
Coconut tea and "That coconut thing"...that's what they call it on the menu! :)
Sooo good!

To our surprise friends Billy and Tamara came in!
We pretended we really didn't know how all that got put in front of us
Taking tiny little bites while we chatted away

 Til they left
...we haaad to try Rice balls!

"There's a new shop in town!"
"A new shop!"
Thursday I checked out the Fennell Market
Love the sign. And when shops are in little houses!

Run by the Sherwood Inn
cutecuteCUTE!
Beautiful fresh foods and the pretty walls are painted Dried Parsley
:)

Sweet sweet AMAZING cooker girl Darcy

Not quite finished yet. There will be sandwich making behind that counter
Lacy and I think sandwiches might just be our favorite food!
...wasn't that Joey's favorite food on Friends??
I bet these are gonna be reeeeally good sandwiches!!!

Had the BEST Nicoise salad and took home some gluten free pasta from Italy!

Top quality seafood from Foley's

If you live here you know what this is
If you don't, you MUST come find out!!

OK here's the reeeally cute part
When you buy your fresh seafood or meat you can pick herbs from the window boxes to cook your meal with!

SO cute right?!

FINALLYYY
Gluten Free pizza!
Loved it!!

Brought some of our "special" cider with us
Perfect combination!

Next stop
Doug's Fish Fry always has a fresh fruit seasonal sundae
Just got off of Strawberry now it's Blueberry time!
...next Peach!!

Thought we were a little too full for ice cream so we tool a walk down to the lake
 What's that?
A FULL MOON

 AND a Full Moon Cruise!

Didn't have tickets but thought we'd wait til the end of the line and see if there was room
...we had luck here before!

Coming up up up as they readied the boat

 We got on!!!

AND we grabbed these two!
:) :) :)
x o x

As we sailed along...is that what you say? sailed?
They played old moon music
Heaven

 Room for two more.
Spurofthemoment
My favorite thing of all
<3

And if the night couldn't get any better...
2 miniature goats in the park when we got off the boat!

Patience, the goat whisperer xxx

Yesterday bright and early, more giving hearts
A ride for the Rescue Mission
 Lacy, JP, and Wayne
20 miles in their near future

 readysetgo!

This family has more energy than I could everrr dream about

They did it!!!
...Lacy got a tree caught in her wheels but kept goin'!
Wacky things alwaysss!!!

Wanted something simple and delicious after another busy week last night

  3. As always, I loved reading your blog. It gives me a new and needed perspective for the week ahead. Someday, I would love dragging my husband to your sweet little hamlet and have a lovely time of it in your part of the U.S. We live smack in the middle of farm country, and are surrounded by soybean and corn fields. I long to live in a lake town such as yours tho. Someday-if your Chiropractor husband ever needs a nurse to work for him, let me know, Cindy. Lol. Some summer we may just head your way to get a taste of what all you blog about. You are truly blessed- xoxo

  11. Your pictures are so wonderful. I love looking them. I feel like it will be a gift to your daughter one day seeing all of these beautiful memories you have posted. Your town is truly lovely. I have never been to that area of New York and it is clearly very different in topography from where we live here on the CT shore. The moon, the food, you and your husband, the animals...makes me feel all warm inside. Thanks! Great post.

They'd have to be cRaZy tho! :)
